David Holmes and Oceans 13

OK, so I love the movie, “Oceans 13,” starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon et al, and directed by Stephen Soderbergh. Oceans 13 is the third movie in the Danny Oceans trilogy. The movie relates a “revenge heist” propagated against hotel owner Willy Bank, who doubled-crossed Reuben Tishkoff, one of the original eleven Oceans members. I like the movie because it is about a group of friends who rally around and come to the aid of one of their own.

Now, something about the music. David Holmes wrote the soundtrack for the Oceans 13 movie. The music is very catchy, having a sense of pace and urgency about it that creates tension throughout the course of the movie. Mr. Holmes is a Northern Irish DJ, musician, and composer. He wrote the soundtrack for the two other Oceans movies (11 & 12), as well as number of other movies, including some other Stephen Sonderbergh directed films. Holmes has also recorded almost a dozen albums in the alternative rock genre. His first proper retrospective, “The Dogs Are Parading: The Very Best of David Holmes,” was released by UME in 2010. To my mind (ear?) his music sounds a little like Pink Floyd (but I am dating myself).
