Here are free piano lessons and tips to help you practice more efficiently at home.
Devise a schedule for lessons and practice.
Keep in mind that you should have a separate schedule for lessons and practice. Think of it like school. Lessons are like the time you spend on school and learning new things in class. Piano practice, on the other hand, is similar to the time you spend at home doing your homework and reviewing your lessons.
Thirty minutes a day is sufficient for practice while reserving an hour per week is adequate for new lessons. Try to choose a time of the day that you’re sure to be available. If possible, look for a place where you can practice without any distraction.
Once you’ve devised the ideal schedule for your lessons and practice then stick to it. Accept no excuses!
Make use of digital or computer-based lessons.
There are all kinds of music software today that offer free piano lessons. Take advantage of them even if you’re already paying for actual lessons. Some of these are online based while others are downloadable. They can help you read notes more effectively or provide new exercises to improve and accelerate finger movement.
Challenge yourself.
Every so often, people are tempted to stick to their comfort zones because that’s where they feel most confident about themselves. Although there’s no possibility for failure, there’s no chance for growth either. If you want to keep on improving on playing the piano then you need to learn new things and take new risks.
You need to challenge yourself with more difficult pieces. If you are learning to play the piano on your own, ask someone with sufficient piano knowledge to assess your skill level. If he thinks you’re good enough to aim for the next level then look for a new piece to help you upgrade.
Don’t forget to enjoy yourself.
This is the most important lesson of all. Learning to play the piano must be a pleasure – or an adventure even. But it can’t be something synonymous to torture so avoid pressuring yourself. It’s good that you have a goal in mind but give yourself as much time as you need to reach your goal. Your music will come out more beautifully if you just let yourself enjoy the experience instead of worrying all the time of how much you’re messing up and how little you know.
