Tips to Play Piano like a Professional

Play piano like a professional by using the tips below.

Tip #1 Pay attention to hand and body positioning.

They have a lot to do with how your music comes out so be patient and diligent. Go back to the basics and memorize the correct positioning of your hands, fingers, and body. Correct positioning will also minimize risk of injury.

Tip #2 Think positive!

You’ll play piano better if you keep an open and positive mind toward practice. If you don’t believe in yourself then you won’t ever live up to your potential. Don’t let lack of self-esteem and inhibitions hinder you.  If you have a genuine passion for playing the piano then your love for it would translate to skill sooner or later.

Tip #3 Be patient.

The likes of Beethoven and Liszt didn’t become the geniuses they are overnight. They may have an inborn or natural gift for playing the piano, but they still practiced nonstop and they always strived to get better and better.

Learning something new is always hardest at the start, but if you continue working hard then your efforts will pay off eventually. The only way you won’t improve when playing the piano is when you quit.

Tip #4 Seek inspiration.

It doesn’t have to be a famous professional pianist. It can be an amateur that you’ve seen on YouTube. What matters is that seeing someone else play the piano – or hearing a piano composition you love – has made you want to practice harder so that you could be just as good as them or maybe even better!

Tip #5 Make a schedule for piano practice and stick to it.

It’s like exercising and dieting. The only way for piano practice to work is to do it faithfully and without any excuses. If missing one practice session is inevitable, you have to make up for it.

Tip #6 Begin at the beginning.

It’s understandable that you want to jump immediately to playing your favorite songs on the piano, but if you want to play flawlessly, you have to begin at the beginning. Even if you aren’t taking professional piano lessons, you still need to follow the usual outline for beginner students.

By starting with the basics, you’ll be able to master the fundamental elements of piano playing and from there, learning the more advanced techniques would be quicker and easier.

With these tips, you’ll hear noticeable improvement to your music shortly.

The picture shows hands that are at too low an angle. Either the person is not sitting high enough, or the elbows are too low and the posture is slouched. This is not how I allow my students to play. There will be too much stress on the wrist with the eventual contribution to carpal tunnel problems.
